Myongji Hospital said that it plans to hold its fourth annual "Myongji International Liver Symposium" at the hospital in Goyang, just north of Seoul, on Friday.

Participants share a moment during the third annual Myongji International Liver Symposium held at Myongji Hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Sep.7, 2018.

The hospital will hold the symposium in commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the opening of its liver center and will focus on real-life and emerging therapies in the field of hepatology.

During the conference, Korean and foreign experts will share clinical experiences and the latest knowledge, and discuss the research and development of future treatments for liver disease. "This year's symposium will present 15 speakers, including those from the United States and Japan," the hospital said in a press release.

The symposium, which will kick off with Professor Lee Hyo-seok's opening speech, will address three topics -- nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), chronic hepatitis B and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and emerging therapies and trending topics.

"The symposium will discuss in detail the practical ways of managing NAFLD and NASH patients based on the accumulated information," Professor Lee said. "We will also introduce the recent results of long-term antiviral therapy for hepatitis B and immunotherapy for HCC."

It will also discuss new treatment for adaptive CAR T-cell therapy for primary biliary cholangtis and HCC, Lee added.
