Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) has become the first Korean hospital to introduce a laparoscopic surgical system which combines 4K (kibibyte), 3D, and indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence technique.

Professor Kim Hyung-rok (second from right) uses the newly introduced laparoscopic surgical system to conduct an operation at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital.

The newly introduced angiography device can more effectively express human tissues, greatly enhance image clarity, and confirm tumors and blood vessels more precisely. The device also has a customized image enhancement technology for each situation, providing an optimal surgical environment and the best image quality for smooth operation.

The system also features a 3D stereoscopic video system, which provides stereoscopic images as seen with the naked eye for the operator.

According to the news release, the hospital can also inject ICG into the blood vessels during operation and visualize the blood flow anatomically using a special camera system, thereby, grasping the exact position and flow of the blood vessels during surgery.

“The state-of-the-art 4K, 3D, and angiography systems provide superior image quality and a 3D stereoscopic images that are close to a naked eye view,” Professor Kim Hyung-rok said. “I am confident that the new system will improve the quality of surgery and make surgery safer, improving the quality of life as well as the recovery of patients.”
