The Korean physicians’ group has been reelected as a regional council member of the World Medical Association (WMA).

The Korean Medical Association (KMA) said it won the membership by winning 37,710 votes in the 2019-2020 WMA regional council membership election in the Asia Pacific region.

Conducted via email votes, doctors’ associations from Taiwan (33,926 votes), Australia (24,455), and Malaysia (2,960) ran for the regional council membership, and Taiwan and Australia won.

In the Asia Pacific region, Japan Medical Association (three seats), KMA (1), Taiwan Medical Association (one), and Australian Medical Association (one) will serve as WMA council members.

KMA said it planned to name a physician who will work for WMA and notify the global group.

WMA has 27 regional council members from seven regions.
