The National Cancer Center (NCC) said that it would complete the construction of a hospice-alleviating medical care facility within two years, providing palliative care for patients chronically or terminally ill.

A bird’s eye view of the National Cancer Center’s affiliate hospice facility, which will open in 2020

The new hospital affiliated with NCC will be built on 31,271 square meters and has 161 sickbeds, including 26 for those who need hospice care, and 40 for children diagnosed with cancer, NCC said in a press release.

“The extension of the hospital aims to fulfill its duty and responsibility as a public health and welfare medical institution rather than seeking quantitative growth,” NCC President Lee Eun-sook said. “We will work not only to perform medical treatment but also realize social values, such as increasing the patient’s and their families’ quality of life.”

The new affiliate hospital, which is to be completed by 2020, will have “unrivaled status” regarding rare and difficult-to-treat cancer, Lee added.

The state-run institution recently has the highest designation of S-class in a survey of customer satisfaction, indicating customers were satisfied with the service quality, it said.
