Samsung Medical Center (SMC) said Monday that it would hold various events for its patients to commemorate the 10th anniversary of opening its Samsung Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“We were able to celebrate the 10th-anniversary thanks to the love and support we received from our patients,” said Nam Seok-jin, director of the cancer hospital. “We will work to create a hospital by further contemplating how to become a patient-oriented institution.”

Sung In-hee (sixth from left), CEO of the Samsung Life Public Welfare Foundation, and other participants cut a ribbon to celebrate the 10th anniversary of SMC’s Cancer Center, on Monday.

The hospital said that it opened a promotion hall that showcases a 260-inch big display from Samsung Electronics called “LED Signage.” The TV set will run clips of professors lecturing on cancer treatment and of other cancer patients who dealt with and overcame their illnesses, according to an SMC official.

The promotion hall will have cutting-edge technology in the form of a touch-type kiosk to help patients understand diseases and gain confidence in treatment through IT equipment. A room to experience virtual reality will also be available to allow people to check for their level of stress and get consultation on it.

The hospital said that it would hold a 10-year ceremony Friday and host events that will involve medical staff checking patients’ blood pressure and blood glucose levels free of charge.

SMC’s cancer hospital will also hand out band-aids to outpatients and fortune cookies filled with good messages to its inpatients, the official added. Patients will also be able to participate in an art therapy experience event on April 2 and draw calligraphy to create “cards of support.”

It will also run music festivals for cancer patients from April 3-5, according to SMC.
