The National Cancer Center (NCC) has shared its know-how on how to care cancer patients when all the attention is being drawn to the anti-coronavirus spread.

NCC said did so by taking in the video conference titled the “How to cope with COVID-19 Pandemic,” organized the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), last Thursday, UICC is the world's largest cancer group, which has 1,172 member organizations and 58 partner organs from 173 countries

NCC also held an advisory meeting last Tuesday at the request of UICC. Cary Adams, head of UICC, and 62 organizations took part in the event to learn from the Korean organ’s experiences to protect cancer patients.

The National Cancer Center holds a video conference to share its know-how with its foreign counterparts on March 26.

Choi Young-ju, head of the Infection Control Office at NCC, explained Korea’s current situation and NCC’s preventive measures, including the establishment of emergency and outpatient screening centers, negative pressure rooms in intensive care units, and screening desk.

“The NCC has been making desperate efforts to protect the safety of cancer patients,” NCC President Lee Eun-sook said. “This organization, which specializes in treating cancer, hopes the conference will help its foreign counterparts overcome the COVID-19 pandemic by taking our example into account.”

NCC is doing its best to strengthen the safety management system for cancer patients to prepare for COVID-19’s becoming a long-term task by operating the selective screening and treatment facilities, the center said.
