Korea will enforce mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine for all entrants from abroad starting Wednesday, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said Sunday.

“All entrants to Korea, regardless of their nationality, should isolate themselves for 14 days, the prime minister said. Visitors without local addresses should stay in government-designated facilities at their own expense,” Chung said.

The nation has limited quarantine measures on entrants from Europe and America. Considering the rapid speed the virus is spreading all over the world, however, the government decided to expand it to all new arrivals, the prime minister said during an interagency meeting on new coronavirus.

Korea has been enforcing a two-week quarantine period and virus tests for all long-term visitors from Europe, regardless of symptoms. Entrants from the U.S. were also obliged to self-isolate at home.

"To prevent entry to Korea for nonessential, including travel, the government will expand the compulsory quarantine step to all foreigners coming in for short stays, too," Premier Chung said.

Korea reported 105 new cases of the coronavirus Sunday, bringing the nation's total to 9,583. The death toll also rose to 152 deaths. Of the new cases, 41 involved entrants from overseas -- 23 from Europe, 14 from the U.S. and four from Asia. Among the total, 412, or 4.3 percent, have been imported cases, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
