Helping hands for the medical community in battling the fast-spreading new coronavirus (COVID-19) came from all corners of society in Korea. K-pop stars are no exceptions.

The Korean Medical Association said Thursday that IU has donated 3,000 pieces of medical protective clothing, worth 100 million won ($82,185).

“I heard that there was a shortage of protective clothing for healthcare workers at medical institutions. I decided to donate them to help them who are doing their best to treat patients and to protect people’s lives,” the 25-year-old signer-songwriter was quoted by the KMA as saying.

The KMA said it would send the donated clothing to hospitals in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province. The number of confirmed cases in Daegu alone surpassed 1,000 as of 9 a.m. Thursday.
