South Korea has confirmed its second coronavirus-infected patient on Friday. The patient, a 55-year-old Korean man, is known to have entered into the nation through Gimpo International Airport after traveling to Wuhan, China, on Wednesday.

The patient visited a local medical institution around Jan. 19 due to the symptoms of a sore throat that started on Jan. 10, while working in Wuhan, China. The patient was put under active surveillance after the airport quarantine checkpoint confirmed he had a fever and a sore throat.

The patient was later confirmed to have the coronavirus through a screening test at a public health center on Thursday.

“The patient was fully aware of the situation in Wuhan City and cooperated with the health status questionnaire during the entry quarantine process,” a Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) official said. “He also cooperated with the instructions given to him by the public health center during the active monitoring process after he returned home.”

As of Friday morning, the KCDC is conducting an in-depth epidemiological survey and will share additional details as soon as the findings are available, the official added.
