Merck Korea said that it has appointed Javed Alam as the new general manager of Merck Biopharma Korea.

Before joining the company this month, Alam worked as the managing director and general manager of Merck Biopharma Vietnam Cluster in Ho Chi Minh City. He also has 21 years of pharmaceutical work experience at Novartis, MSD and Sanofi Aventis. He moved to Merck in 2014.

The new general manager has also been an active member of industry associations. He served at Vietnam Ethical Pharma Industry Association, Pharma Group Vietnam, as a member of the board and elected treasurer for two successive terms.

Recognizing his experience, the Korean Research-based Pharma Industry Association (KRPIA) has also elected Alam as a board member this month.

“Alam looks forward to leading Merck Korea Biopharma to help it achieve short- and long-term business and policy objectives successfully,“ the company said in a news release Tuesday.
