Seoul National University Bundang Hospital_{분당서울대병원}(SNUBH) has won a $5-million contract to build a hospital information system (HIS) in Saudi Arabia, by forming a consortium with SK Telecom and EZCareTech.

The Korean hospital signed the contract with Royal Commission Health Service Program, Hospital in Jubail (RCHSP), hospital officials said.

RCHSP, a hospital with 260 beds in the eastern industrial city, is providing healthcare services for the executives and employees of the Royal Commission and foreigners in the area.

The project will begin this month and end in November. The consortium expects to receive additional projects upon its successful completion.

The consortium could win the project because it had raised the degree of its recognition in Saudi and other Middle East countries through the successful construction of HIS in six large hospitals as part of the Ministry of Defense project and 70 primary medical institutions over the past two years, the officials said.

"We have demonstrated the excellence of the Korean HIS optimized to the Middle East area through the Ministry of Defense projects. And we are getting inquiries not only from large public and private hospitals in Saudi but its neighboring countries, such as Lebanon, Qatar, and Kuwait,” said Hwang Hee, chief information officer of SNUBH. “It seems likely we will be able to deliver more news about receiving similar orders.”

The highest official at the Korean hospital was equally upbeat. "We will continue to create success stories in overseas markets as a leading hospital that combines IT and medical care in the era of the fourth industrial revolution,” CEO Jheon Sang-hoon said.
