MSD Korea said it would recall HIV treatment Stocrin (ingredient: efavirenz) manufactured with a particular code.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said it ordered the pharmaceutical firm to withdraw Stocrin 600mg with the factory number “86735023” and the expiration date April 27, 2021.

The decision came as the ministry found that the company distributed the HIV drug without adding a warning label that patients must not take it with chronic hepatitis C treatment Zepatier (elbasvir/grazoprevir).

On March 27, 2018, the ministry ordered the company to add a precaution about the prohibition of the use of Stocrin and Zepatier together.

The added warning followed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s safety information that simultaneous use of the two drugs could lower the effectiveness of suppressing hepatitis C virus.

Stocrin is a treatment for HIV-1 infection, taken once daily in combination with other antiretroviral drugs.
