Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine said Wednesday that the Times Higher Education (THE), a U.K.-based university ranking provider, has put it at the top of local medical education institutions in clinical, pre-clinical and health areas.

The school also ranked 41st among global medical educational institutions.

THE evaluated the competitiveness of each field of study such as education and research, citation and internationalization index of journals published by the university and presented the top 500 medical institutions.

Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine first entered the top 100 in the “2016 THE World University Evaluation" published in 2015, and the 88th best medical institution globally.

Since then, it has steadily risen to 72nd place in the 2017 evaluation and 57th place in the 2018 assessment. In the 2019 assessment, it became one of the two local medical universities to rank inside the top 50 brackets along with Seoul National University Medical University (49th).

“Being ranked the 41st place in the world is a result of having received a high score in all aspects, including paper quotations, industrialized incomes, international reputation, research capacity, and education,” Dean Choe Yon-ho said. “We will continue to put our efforts and invest in research and education.”
