Lunit said Tuesday that it would collaborate with Fujifilm Medical Systems USA and Mexico’s Salud Digna Hospital to launch a medical AI project.

Under the cooperation accord, the three companies plan to install a medical AI system, co-developed by Lunit and Fujifilm Medical Systems, in the actual medical environment and optimize it by reflecting the evaluation results of the radiologists who use the device.

The AI system incorporates Lunit Insight, an artificial intelligence solution developed by Lunit for chest X-ray and mammography, on Fuji Film's picture archiving and communication system (PACS).

The device helps doctors interpret images through medical AI, which in turn, can improve work efficiency and read accuracy.

Currently, the two companies have installed the system at hospitals owned by Salud Digna, where 20 radiologists are using the device.

Salud Digna is one of the largest hospitals networks in Mexico with 94 clinics in 24 states and has read over 182,000 medical images in October alone.

Also, three hospitals in the United Arab Emirates are conducting pilot tests of the AI system developed by the two companies.

“The partnership between Fujifilm and Salud Digna will be a significant step for us to try and verify the ROUTE AI solution in a real clinical environment overseas,” Lunit CEO Suh Beom-seok said.
