Moon Byung-in, vice president of Ewha Womans University and director of EUMC, announced the operational plans of the new Seoul hospital during the event celebrating the 25th anniversary of Mokdong hospital, located in Yangcheon-gu, southwestern Seoul.

The construction of Ehwa’s new hospital in Magok District, northwestern Seoul, will be completed by the end of this month. The medical center will hold the official dedication ceremony on Nov. 12.

The new hospital plans to provide full-scale medical services next February, and gradually increase the number of hospital beds so that it can operate 1,014 beds soon. It will be the first hospital in Korea that has a three-person room as the standard ward. All intensive care units will also be single-person rooms.

“All the staffs at EUMC should gather strength to prepare for a successive opening,” Moon said. “We will make every effort to stabilize the system of both hospitals of EUMC as soon as possible in time for the opening of the new hospital.”

Han Jong-in, director of Mokdong hospital, stressed the need to make for a “safe hospital.”

“What we have learned through the difficult times is that patient safety is the matter that decides the hospital’s survival. Prevention is more important than ever because small things and minor mistakes can turn into fatal accidents or severe crises,” Han said.

Han emphasized that new hospital is the hope and challenge for EUMC to leap forward.

“Normalizing the medical performance of our existing hospital is important for the successful opening and stable operation of the new institution,” he said. “We will strive to maximize our strengths and open up new competitive areas to revitalize our medical performance.”

Han also said that he would focus on securing a joint growth of the two hospitals through balanced allocation and exchange of resources and workforce after the opening of the new hospital.

About 100 faculty members and university officials participated in the event, which gave awards to exemplary employees and long-service workers.
