The police have arrested a physician operating a famous plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam after allegedly administering propofol himself at the clinic during the national Chuseok holiday last month. Propofol is used for general anesthesia.
The news sent shock waves across the medical community as the plastic surgeon serves as director of the Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons.
Gangnam Police Station in Seoul said they booked the plastic surgeon without detention for violating the Narcotics Control Act.
The police received an emergency 112 call on the morning of Sept. 23, with the caller saying, “The head of the clinic seems to be administering a narcotic substance himself at the clinic.” Police officers immediately went to the clinic in Sinsa-dong, southern Seoul, and arrested him.
The plastic surgeon reportedly admitted the use of propofol during the police investigation.
Under the consent of the physician, the police asked the National Forensic Service to analyze his blood for an accurate analysis of the substance composition.
The police said they planned to send the plastic surgeon to the prosecutors.
