The National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation said Thursday that it has joined the World Health Organization's National Control Laboratory Network for Biologicals (NNB).

Founded in 2016, NNB is an international consortium to minimize the double-shipment approval of prequalification (PQ) vaccines by promoting the mutual recognition of national shipping approval between PQ vaccine-producing countries.

As of now, the WHO supplies 233 PQ-approved vaccines from 22 countries. Of the 22 countries, 17 countries, including South Korea, Germany and Australia, are members of the NNB.

The main cooperative activities of the council include the exchange of information such as national approval procedures, test methods, and results, share optimal regulation cases, prepare a standard national approval form, and maintain the confidentiality of interchange information.

“We will continue our international cooperation activities to support the global expansion of domestic vaccines,” said the Korean institutes under the wing of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
