Seven officers from Qatar Armed Force Medical Command have started a month-long training program to learn Korea’s hospital management system, the health official said Monday.

The training is meaningful as it is the first case in hospital management for foreign medical personnel, said the officials at the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI).

The training session comes after the Qatar Armed Force Medical Command formally expressed its desire to apply Korea’s hospital management system to its new armed forces hospital, during the “Medical Korea 2018” conference in May.

The Qatar Armed Force Medical Command signed an MOU with the Korean ministry in May last year and has since conducted various cooperation projects.

The one-month training program consists of 23 courses -- 17 medical courses and six non-medical ones – and will focus on areas such as hospital infection management, emergency medical care, big data analysis and hospital information system.

More than 30 medical professionals from various local institutions, including the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) and the National Cancer Center, will take part in the training program.

“Starting with the training of the Qatar Armed Force Medical Command, we plan to spread Korean hospital management training to other countries such as China and Southeast Asia,” said Kim Hyun-sook, the ministry’s overseas medical director.
