Foreign physicians are increasingly visiting Kosin University Gospel Hospital in Busan to participate in various medical training programs.

Musheer Shafqat, a Pakistani surgeon, began his training in May last year, after contacting the hospital’s overseas medical volunteering team. Shafqat observed liver/biliary/pancreatic and general surgeries at the hospital and learned important techniques.

After finishing a 13-month course, Shafqat had a ceremony on June 18 to celebrate the completion of the training where his family attended.

“I was able to experience various surgical procedures that were not possible in Pakistan. It was an unforgettable time. The story of Dr. Jang Giryeo was very impressive, and the life of surgeons who continue with his spirit inspired me so much,” Shafqat said.

Zolboo Banzragch, a Mongolian doctor who entered Korea through the training program of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), has also been receiving training at the Kosin hospital’s endocrine medicine department since May 8. Working for Mongolia’s Central Hospital, Banzragch focuses on thyroid disease and diabetes.

“The distribution of thyroid patients in Korea is so large that it must have been helpful for Mongolian doctors despite their short stay. We will continue to maintain active exchanges and try to contribute to medical development in Mongolia, too,” said Choi Young-sik, acting director of Kosin University Gospel Hospital.

An Indian doctor, who works for a hospital in Tanzania, has also been attending a two-week training program at the cardiology department since June 22.

The hospital said it would invite Russian physicians through KHIDI’s “Korea-Russia Project Training Program.”
