Boryung Biopharma and Eone Diagnomics Genome Center (EDGC) have launched a personal genome analysis service called “The Mom Care” to predict generic risks of various pregnancy-related diseases.

The service provides a customized lifestyle guide based on an analysis on the relative risk of 26 types of disease including pregnancy-related diseases, cancer, and metabolic diseases. Boryung said it would also offer a reasonable price for evaluating six disease types that are closely related to pregnant women such as the MTHFR (methyl tetrahydrofolate reductase) gene, thromboembolism, toxemia, and type-2 diabetes.

The Mom Care analyzes single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) patterns using a state-of-the-art microarray method using a semiconductor chip with about 700,000 probes. The test uses a small amount of blood (0.25 ml or more) and the client can obtain results after 14 days.

The Mom Care also identifies the associated genes, the genotype of the examinee, the risk of developing a genetic disorder, and the frequency of the genotype in Koreans according to the examined SNP area.

“The most significant difference with existing tests is the reasonable price and that the relative risk of the disease is quantified by referring to domestic and foreign literature data that reveals the relationship between the gene with each disease,” said Kim Ji-hoon, project manager of The Mom Care at Boryung Biopharma.
