Daewoong Pharmaceutical said Monday that it has launched Comekina (Ingredient: Mequitazine), a compound rhinitis treatment.

This compound drug consists of Mequitazine, Pseudoephedrine, Belladonna, Glycyrrhizic acid and anhydrous caffeine.

Mequitazine, the drug's main compound, has fewer side effects such as drowsiness compared to other conventional antihistamine compound drug components such as chlorpheniramine and diphenhydramine.

Also, the anhydrous caffeine helps minimizes the drowsiness of the drug, while other ingredients such as Pseudoephedrine, Belladonna, Glycyrrhizic acid help to treat nonallergic rhinitis such as nosebleeds and other than allergic rhinitis.

“The company plans to reach 1 billion won ($993,000) in sales in 2018 and become the top product among domestic rhinitis drugs by 2020,” said Song Ha-na, Comekina's product manager. “The company expects no obstacles in reaching our first goal as there has been no oral rhinitis drug product that has achieved sales of 1 billion won in the first year without advertising in the previous few years.”

According to IMS, a pharmaceutical market research company, the local market for oral rhinitis drug reached 20 billion won in 2017.
