German medical device firm B. Braun said Thursday that it named Stephan Soyka as the managing director of the company’s Korean branch.

B. Braun is a global medical device company that records around 9 trillion won ($8.43 billion) in sales and operates in 64 countries.

"I am very pleased to join the company as the general manager of the Korean branch, located in a country acknowledged throughout the world for having superior medical staff, medical technology, and a high-quality medical environment,” Soyka said.

Soyka is a business management specialist who has been involved in marketing and sales of several global pharmaceutical companies over the past 20 years. He’s held various leadership titles at Abbott Laboratories, Solvay Pharma, and Bayer. He joined B. Braun’s Indonesian branch in 2014 before the recent appointment.

Soyka graduated from the Philipp University of Marburg and the University of Tubingen, majoring in business administration at both. He also went to an international high school in Korea, according to the company.
