Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) said Thursday that its consortium has signed a $5 million contract to establish BESTCare 2.0, a Korean hospital information system, at the Clemenceau Medical Center (CMC) in Dubai.

The SNUBH consortium consists of SNUBH, SK Telecom and Ezcaretech.

The consortium plans to start the project in October and have the system up and running by February of next year. The Clemente Hospital Group is set to expand its branches in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Amman. The group plans to install the system in its new hospitals, as well as its main hospital in Lebanon.

CMC, located in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, is the “highest-ranking” general hospital in the region and also has a partnership with the Johns Hopkins Hospital in the U.S. The hospital has 158 beds, neurology and general surgery department, and a heart center. It also operates eleven surgery rooms equipped with Da Vinci robots and surgical automation systems.

The hospital is one of the most renowned hospitals that provide medical tourism in the Middle East. Recently, the hospital has been reviewing a project to install a quality-verified global hospital information system.

“As the BESTCare 2.0 had major success cases in Saudi Arabia, demand for the system has been steadily increasing in the Middle Eastern market,” said Hwang Hee, SNUBH chief information officer and head of the project. “The system has a great competitive edge as it is optimized for Middle Eastern markets.”

The director of the hospital also showed enthusiasm about the new sales agreement.

“BESTCare 2.0 is a solution implemented through investment supported by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Ministry of Science and ICT,” SNUBH director Jheon Sang-hoon said. “Through this contract, we plan to make an excellent export case and repay the national support that we received.”

The hospital also plans to export not only its information systems but also other excellent Korean medical technology and services, Jheon added.

The SNUBH Consortium became renowned for its excellence in quality and professionalism in the Middle East after becoming the first Asia Pacific enterprise to complete construction of its hospital information systems in seven general hospitals and 70 primary medical institutions in Saudi Arabia.

In recent years, it has further proved its competitiveness on the international stage by securing a hospital client in the U.S., the top market for medical IT.
