Korea’s National Cancer Center (NCC) said that the first Korea-China-Japan joint workshop on cancer control and translational biomedical research would open in Beijing Friday.

Officials, researchers, and doctors from the three medical institutions designated as the countries’ cancer hospitals will attend the workshop, marking the first such event to be held between the three hospitals, an NCC official said.

“The workshop will aim to foster international cooperation through sharing the cancer-related government policies and research of Japan, Korea, and China,” the official said.

Korea’s National Cancer Center President Lee Eun-sook, China’s Cancer Institute and Hospital-Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences President Jie He, and Japan’s National Cancer Center President Hitoshi Nakagama will open each session of the workshop.

The heads and directors of respective divisions will deal with topics such as the national cancer control plan and screening programs, cancer burden, and precision medicine in South Korea. Officials from 16 provincial cancer centers in China, including Gansu, Hubei, and Jiangxi, will also participate in the conference.

The workshop will be held at the Chinese Cancer Institute and Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing.
