Han Wha Pharma said recently it would start selling Rhino-Protect PRS, a nasal cavity protective cream developed by Germany’s Dr. Theiss to prevent the inhalation of allergens.

The product received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a Grade 2 medical device. In Korea, it obtained the regulatory nod as a Grade 2 wound dressing.

Rhino-Protect PRS prevents moisture loss in the mucous membrane by forming a thin protective film on the nasal cavity. The cream also prevents allergic rhinitis and alleviates its symptoms by blocking the allergy-causing antigens such as pollens, house dust, and animal hairs.

Han Wha Pharma said the product has no side effect because it contains no steroids, antihistamines, antibiotics, or preservatives. No adverse reactions or interaction with other drugs have been reported either, the company said.

“This product can be an alternative for allergic rhinitis patients who have adverse reactions to steroids or suffer from antihistamine’s side effects such as drowsiness,” said Cho Kyu-seong, product manager of Han Wha Pharma’s respiratory division. “It can work against various allergens ranging from general allergens such as house dust and dust mites to seasonal ones including pollens.”
