A medical 3D printing technician, a Big Data analyst, and an artificial intelligence expert are among the promising occupations with new certificates, a human resources development supporting agency said.

Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea) on Wednesday released a report that suggested “20 promising new state certificates to prepare for the fourth industrial revolution,” after consultations with experts in various sectors.

The prospective certificates were divided into six sectors – information/communications, machinery, agriculture/forestry/fisheries, finance/insurance, environment/energy, and culture/content.

In information and communications, HRD Korea suggested seven certificates, including Big Data analyst, AI expert, Internet-of-Things coordinator, Cloud system expert, and virtual reality expert.

The agency also suggested manufacturing 3D medical components as a promising certificate, as the medical community is increasingly using them. If newly designated, the license would require an ability to do a medical market survey to make components for diagnosis and treatment. It would also require product planning, scanning, designing, engineering, modeling, handling a 3D printer, printing medical components, and processing the products retrospectively, HRD Korea said.

Other suggested certificates include drone repair expert, wearable device repair expert, eco-friendly architect, unmanned aerial photographer, and electronic vehicle repair expert.

“In the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, the government should continue to update certificates to help people prepare for changes in industries and occupations, along with the current policy push. The government should forecast promising jobs and newly establish state certificates in technology,” the report said.
