Novartis Korea has been embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal, as a male employee recently reported to the company that his female boss sexually harassed him in September. The woman allegedly made excessive physical contacts and sexual comments to her junior staff at a dinner, following a company event in a province.

Other employees, who also were at the dinner, reportedly said the female executive’s physical moves were inappropriate, going far farther than merely expressing intimacy.

After receiving the report, the company put the female executive’s position on hold and set up a committee to discuss punishment. However, she voluntarily left the firm citing personal circumstances, immediately after the panel was set up, according to reports.

“Due to company policy, we cannot make any comment on individual cases,” Novartis Korea said. “Novartis Korea does not tolerate any wrongdoing that goes against not only the company’s value and code of conduct but also a social norm. The company is making an effort to create an office environment where employees mutually trust and respect.”

The company said that it operates an internal reporting system to allow employees to report unfair practices on the condition of anonymity.” Novartis Korea handles reported cases in due processes including a thorough investigation and fair procedures,” it added.
