Samsung Electronics and Samsung Medison said they have developed various new technologies, including OmniTom, to help radiologists conduct clinical trials and hospitals run their institutions more efficiently.

They made the announcement at the Radiological Society of North America 2017, which opened in Chicago on Sunday for a six-day run.

OmniTom is a mobile 16-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner that has superior image quality and enhanced safety system. It is also the world’s first mobile imaging device maximizing its mobility making the machine optimal for emergency or operating rooms.

It uses technology developed by Samsung Electronics, which improves accuracy in diagnosis with advanced algorithms and efficiency along with advanced display, user experience, and information management technology.

The company also unveiled its spectral CT with photon counting detector (PCD). The PCD is a technology that measures photons by the energy of the x-ray beam. The difference in energy response between different tissues makes it easier for medical staff to distinguish lesions more clearly.

During the event, Samsung also plans to introduce the use of diagnostic imaging using contrast imaging and how artificial intelligence as a diagnostic assistant contributes to clinical research, work movement, and hospital cost-effectiveness.
