The Korean Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness (KFPB) said Tuesday that it had provided free medical treatment in Cat Hai and Cat Ha Island, Haiphong, Vietnam.

LG Display sponsored the foundation’s “light of love” outreach program from Oct. 30 to Nov. 4, and Haiphong Eye Hospital cooperated with it, it said.

LG Display signed a memorandum of understanding with the KFPB and Haiphong Eye Hospital in April 2017 as part of a project to prevent blindness in Korea and other countries.

Residents at Haiphong, a vulnerable medical area in Vietnam, received ophthalmologic treatment and one-stop service, and those who urgently require surgery could undergo an operation at the Haiphong Eye Hospital. Residents were also given sunglasses to protect their eyes from high ultraviolet rays.

The Korean Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness jointly collaborated with Haiphong Eye Hospital to provide free medical treatment to residents living in remote areas in Haiphong, Vietnam.

Medical staff members and business officials, including Tran Manh Do, director of Haiphong Eye Clinic, Kim Ki-beom김기법, executive director of LG Display, and Kwang Sung-soo광선수, team leader of KFPB, led the event.

They treated 321 patients, providing medications for 300 patients and free cataract surgery to 33 patients. All patients were given more than 400 sunglasses, with the financial help from the Neunggok Church in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

“Even though Vietnam has been achieving a lot of economic growth in recent years, many people in remote areas need medical treatment and surgery as they cannot get medical care,” Kim said. “Because of this, we will try to provide medical care support in the future regularly.”
