The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) said Monday it would provide domestic patent information of 60 ingredients to support local pharmaceutical companies' development of medicines and advance into overseas markets.

Additional information includes the domestic patent information of 60 medicines such as Abciximab, a platelet aggregation inhibitor, and updated patent information of 781 ingredients.

Reflecting on the domestic drug market size and pharmaceutical companies’ demand, the ministry will also provide 568 domestic patents information on the 60 selected ingredients (103 items). For the 781 components that currently offer patent information, the agency will administer additional 2,005 pieces of information newly filed last year.

Since last year, the ministry has added patent information from four Latin American countries, including Mexico, to drug patent informatics. This year, it will extend the service to patent information in Japan and five Asian countries.

"We hope that the expansion of this patent information will help domestic pharmaceuticals’ research and development efforts and their advance to overseas markets,” the agency said. "We will continue to expand domestic and foreign patent information through active industry feedback.”
