Doctors will hold a rally to fight against President Moon Jae-in’s policy of expanding health insurance coverage, dubbed the “Mooncare,” and block Oriental medicine practitioners from using modern medical devices.

The Korean Medical Association’s emergency planning committee said Tuesday its member physicians across the nation would hold the rally at 2 p.m. on Dec. 10. The committee aims to gather more than 30,000 doctors for the rally and have them march on the streets.

“The rally will give us an opportunity to highlight the problems of Mooncare and the government’s plan to allow Oriental medicine practitioners to use modern medical devices, as well as to collect opinions from the medical community and the general public,” said Ahn Chi-hyeon, spokesperson of the KMA’s emergency committee.

The target number of 30,000 physicians is just a figure to motivate ourselves to work hard. It is more important to let doctors and Korean people know the problems of Mooncare and the use of modern medical devices by Oriental medicine practitioners, he added.

Ahn urged the KMA’s member doctors to participate in the upcoming rally to deal with the grave issues of the medical industry and show their solidarity.

The KMA established the emergency planning committee on Oct. 16 to protest Mooncare and prevent Oriental medicine practitioners from using modern medical devices.
