The government is set to create more jobs as pledged by President Moon Jae-in during his election campaign that has recently extended to the healthcare sector.

Unionists, bureaucrats and business executives in the healthcare field issued a joint declaration to create more jobs in the sector Wednesday.

Four hospitals, four union groups, and four government ministries --Presidential Committee on Job Creation, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Ministry of Employment and Labor -- participated in creating the tripartite resolution in seven meetings.

The government will strengthen the legal, institutional and financial foundations for supporting healthcare organizations and their workers, according to a news release issued by the four related government agencies.

This is the first joint declaration signed by the tripartite panel since the inauguration of the Moon Jae-in administration. “The event had a higher-than-expected turnout, showing a keen interest in the subject,” the four agencies said.

The participants agreed on 10 agenda items for creating good jobs in the healthcare sector and improving the working environment for its workers. The 10 proposals include working out a policy package to meet rising demand for nurses, setting up measures to expand human resources in vulnerable areas and public institutions, and establishing an efficient management system for healthcare workers.

Other notable items included measures to create a work-life balance for mothers working in the healthcare field, stabilizing working conditions and creating an environment that promotes job creation in medical institutions.
